The first rudimentary Concert Bands formed during the French Revolution were the product of a working class culture that developed particularly well in our Region where it evolved little by little into the version we currently have today with its very well-balanced sound and its evocative harmonics.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, this model sound has travelled the globe. The whole world has adopted it and it has naturally returned re-shaped and re-formed by the influences of various cultures that are necessarily very different from one region to another.
Coups de Vents Wind Orchestra is the first wind orchestra bringing together professional musicians coming mainly from the Pas-de-Calais and Kent (United Kingdom). This leading band is made up of musicians from the Euro-region demonstrating how close cross-border relations can be for concert bands between the North of France and Kent.

The Coups de Vents Wind Orchestra is subsidised by the Department of the Pas-de-Calais and is both a promotional resource for contemporary music and a place where musicians and young conductors can learn. What's more, it is a research laboratory where composers can try out new ideas and it is a means of communicating culture.

Naturally, this highly ranked group of musicians will play a big part in raising the Euro-region's musical and cultural profile at major events such as the opening of the "Entente Cordiale" Cultural Centre - Hardelot Chateau, but also for the first 2010 Coups de Vents international Festival, the 2012 Olympic Games, etc.
